Cardio A.D.D.

I sooo didn’t want to get out of bed this morning.  My bed was so comfy & warm, all I wanted to do was reset my alarm and fall back asleep.  I stared at the ceiling for about 10 minutes debating myself on whether or not to get up.  It went like this:

‘I can workout later’
‘uh, you know you won’t!’
‘Ok but I deserve a rest’ ‘
‘You had one yesterday’
‘But if i’m tired doesn’t that mean that my body is trying to tell me something
and I that I need more sleep?’
‘No, that’s just an excuse’
‘Ummmm…’
‘Besides, you have a commitment to uphold now’
‘aw crap!’

Today the debate wasn’t that bad, but sometimes it can go on and on and on.  However, I did make a big commitment yesterday which requires a lot of training so I couldn’t take the debate any further. On November 2nd I will run the NYC Marathon on Fred’s Team, named after Fred Lebow, creator of the NYC Marathon.  Money raised by Fred’s Team runners benefit The Aubrey Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  The Aubrey Fund’s primary source of support comes from Fred’s Team, Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Marathon Program whose team members participate in marathons around the globe and have their runs sponsored by donors.  So I have big shoes to fill, but I am really excited about being a part of this team.  Hence the need to get my butt to the gym this morning.

Usually once I get to the gym I’m fine and can get right to work.  But this morning I could just not focus.  I got on the treadmill to warm up, but I could feel that I was not in to it at all.  So I got off and hopped on the elliptical, but that sucked too.  So after about 10 minutes I knew I had to do the ‘ol Cardio A.D.D. Mish-Mosh.  This is when you have no desire to workout, can’t concentrate or focus, but you’re already at the gym so you might as well do something…anything!  Here’s what I did (everything was back to back with no rest in between):

5 min jog warm up on treadmill
10 min elliptical (level 10)
20 Jump squats
10 min fast run on treadmill
20 push ups
15 min elliptical Intervals
20 weighted butt lifts
10 min fast run on treadmill

By the time I was done I was drenched in sweat and felt like at least accomplished something.  So if you’ve got the Gym-blues, try the workout above or make up your own with the stuff you like to do.  As long as you get it done that’s all that matters!

oh wow that’s what theycall it.. I suffer from it some days as well. Usually circuits work best for me on those days so glad to know I’m not the only one LOL

Congrats on taking that big step.. good luck with your training!

LOL..that sounds like many of my morning ritual self talks! But once I get up and get going, I feel SO much better the whole day!

Kudos to you and your awesome cardio workout!

    Sounds like a great work-out.

I seem to loathe jogging/cycling for > 20 minutes at a time. This workout certainly varies the cardio workout.. :-)

    Thanks for the suggestion!

That does sound like a great workout – when I get cardio ADD though, for some reason, I just feel like I don’t get enough out of each machine if I don’t spend at least 30 minutes on it. I know it’s all in my head, though.

I can’t believe I’m actually looking forward to working out again in a couple (5 or 6?) weeks!
