Yeah baby, finals are OVER and school is out for 2 WHOLE weeks(hey, i’ll take what I can get)! There is still work, training and familying to be done, but at least the pressure is off.
Yesterday I subbed a class that I haven’t taught in about a year. The class is called Group Power and is one the programs by Body Training Systems. This particular time slot used to be mine so I was especially excited to see all my old peeps, and of course wanted to make sure they got a great workout. Group Power is a 60 minute barbell class that works all of the major muscle groups. There are 10 music tracks – 1 being the warm up, 2 legs, 3 chest, 4 back & legs, 5 triceps, 6 biceps, 7 more legs, 8 shoulders, 9 abs & 10 the cool down. Each track has a weight recommendation and participants adjust their weights according to their own fitness level. New BTS programming comes out every three months with music ranging from ACDC to Aretha Franklin so there is something for everyone. And the cool thing is, after a new release has been introduced at the club for a few weeks, instructors can mix & max the tracks from any release to create their own workout (as long as you stick to the muscle group line up above). I really like that, because it keeps things fresh for everyone and the body is always challenged.
I’m happy to report that yesterday’s class rocked and all my old/new peeps kicked ass. Aside from being up on a stage (yes, BTS programming is taught on a small stage facing the class), what I love most about teaching class is encouraging people to push themselves and then watching them do it. I heard moans, groans & grunting from the class for every track, but it was that really good “i’m giving it all I got!” noise. When I teach I’m kinda a woo-hooing drill sergeant, so I’m encouraging but still cracking the whip when someone needs it. So far, no one has tried to beat me up yet for my woo-hooing, so I think its a good balance.
What did you do this weekend?
I’m not caught up on my blog reading yet so gimme some raunchy dirt please!
